Most people know about Earth Day celebrated on April 22nd every year in support of environmental protection and conservation. But Earth Hour is a newer celebration. In 2007, Australia started a lights-off event in Sydney to raise awareness about climate change. Since then, Earth Hour has spread to 162 countries and territories. For one hour, between 8:30 and 9:30 PM local time, participants turn off the lights in their residences and businesses.
Earth Hour 2015 is being celebrated on Saturday March 28th this year.
Earth Hour is “not just about saving energy for one hour; it’s about going beyond the hour with lasting, behavior-changing actions for a sustainable planet.”
